CONSTRUCTION

We have developed a highly insulated twin-frame wall system that far out-performs block built construction methods, achieving U-values as low as 0.11W/(m2K) which is double current building regulations and complies with level 6 of the code for sustainable homes. This construction system is usually timber clad or rendered with lime or cement, but it can equally well be faced with brick or stonework.

Timber frame construction offers many significant advantages over traditional masonry construction.

  • Cost effectiveness
  • Speed and accuracy of construction
  • Minimal use of cement/concrete
  • Flexibility of design
  • Ease of installing and concealing plumbing and electrics
  • High levels of insulation (very warm and dry, with low running costs)
  • Airtight structure with minimal thermal bridging
  • Aesthetically pleasing
  • Often favored by planning authorities

Working from precise CAD drawings, we usually construct the timber framework in-situ. This results in a stronger seamless structure without the joints found on pre-fabricated panels. On-site construction also facilitates last minute design and layout changes as well as saving on workshop and transport costs.

The exterior of the timber framework is covered by a layer of plywood sheathing and a breathable membrane before being clad with timber boards or rendered. The inside surface is then insulated and protected from condensation by an air-tight vapor barrier.

Groundworks, drainage, plumbing and electrics are carried out by qualified sub-contractors.
